In celebration of National Poetry Month, WLRN and O, Miami are asking poets, professional and amatuer alike, to think of a place in South Florida that is meaningful to them.
Take a picture of this place, and write a short poem about it including the phrase "this is where." WLRN and O, Miami will choose 10 favorite poems every week and post them on this page each Friday in April. On April 23, they will choose finalists and invite them to read their submissions at an event on April 30.
Five winners will be chosen from that group, one of them via "People's Choice" methodology and the rest by a published poet. The winning poems will be published in the Miami Herald and WLRN.org.
If you’re lacking inspiration, take a visit to Pérez Art Museum Miami and get lost in the exhibition A Human Document: Selections from the Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry or take in the view from the bayside steps.
