On September 30, 2016, PAMM will debut S-281913, a major new work by Sarah Oppenheimer on view until April 30, 2017. Bridging art, architecture, and engineering, Oppenheimer’s intensive spatial modifications generate astonishing effects that both scramble and clarify our understanding of the buildings we inhabit, providing not only new ways of looking, but a new set of philosophical considerations with which to approach the built environment.
In conjunction with the opening of Doris Salcedo, the artist presented a talk in the PAMM auditorium that touched upon the art and influences that have marked her 30-year career.
PAMM hosted a Fourth of July celebration exclusively for its members. Guests enjoyed live music and food, and were able to walk the galleries that remained open late for the occasion. As evening approached, guests enjoyed the amazing view from the terrace of the nearby firework displays that took place over Biscayne Bay.
Distinguished Columbia University Professor Robert O’Meally discussed the work of Romare Bearden and his series of photostat projections which were produced in 1964 and were on view at PAMM. O’Meally has written extensively on Bearden and organized the Smithsonian traveling exhibition Romare Bearden: A Black Odyssey, which toured the country through early 2015.
