Adler Guerrier Opening Celebration and Artist Talk

On Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), guests toasted in celebration of the opening of Haitian-born, Miami-based Adler Guerrier’s first solo museum exhibition, Adler Guerrier: Formulating a Plot.

The stimulating multi-media exhibition explores Miami’s political history of radical activism through the city’s urban and suburban landscapes. Surveying 15 years of work across diverse media, the artist’s first, solo museum exhibition, Adler Guerrier: Formulating a Plot, considers the central themes and concerns of Guerrier’s practice.

As the sun set over museum park, the Ambassadors of African American Art kicked off the evening with a toast to the artist. Guests enjoyed cocktails and dialogue between artist, Adler Guerrier and exhibit curator, Diana Nawi. A breadth of topics reflected in the exhibition were discussed, including Guerrier’s interest in Miami’s history, the legacy of the 1960s, and the influence of cinema and literature on his practice. Thom Collins, Director of Pérez Art Museum Miami, also made note that PAMM is positioned to have the largest collection of African American Art in the region.

Adler Guerrier: Formulating a Plot will be on view at PAMM through January 25, 2015.
