In the first Scholl Lecture Series, artist Simon Starling speaks about his artistic process and, specifically, about his large-scale installation, Inverted Retrograde Theme, USA (House for a Songbird), 2002, that traces the paradoxes of modernist architecture in the Caribbean. The installation, which is part of PAMM's permanent collection was gifted to the museum by Dennis and Debra Scholl.
On September 22, 2014, more than 300 of South Florida’s most influential business leaders attended the highly-anticipated Seventh Annual Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Corporate Luncheon, which honors the corporate community for its vital support of the arts in South Florida. For the first time, the luncheon was held at the museum’s new, and now iconic, waterfront facility.
PAMM Curatorial Assistant and 2014 CPPC Travel Award recipient María Elena Ortiz travelled to Aruba as part of a series of research trips to various Caribbean countries to visit new and established contemporary art centers, art initiatives and film festivals.
The biannual Independent Vision Curatorial Award, given out by Independent Curators International (ICI), honors the work of up-and-coming curators. PAMM Associate Curator Diana Nawi is amongst the 15 nominees from around the world.
On Thursday, September 18, 2014, nearly 650 visitors celebrated the opening of Beatriz Milhazes: Jardim Botânico, presented by Itaú, at Pérez Art Museum Miami. The opening celebration featured the Miami debut of Brazilian band Alma Tropicalia, sets by DJ Marcello Bentine and Brazilian-inspired cocktails as the sun set over Museum Park.
