Calendar: Workshop: "But is it Really a Painting: A Practice of Juxtaposition" by T. Eliott Mansa

Event Description

Local artist and graduate of Yale School of Art T. Elliot Mansa will guide participants to explore studio practices that are informed by histories, ideas or uses of materials. Inspired by Fred Wilson’s Addiction Display (1991), featured in Global Positioning Systems, participants will use different media in ways that counter their traditional uses to challenge the definitions of painting, drawing and sculpture.

Additional artists' works to be discussed are Angelo de la Cruz and Nicole Cherubini, whose works are examples of artistes examining the history of painting. They both manipulate the usage of different materials, such as ceramics, in a way that examines, evokes and critiques said history.
