Calendar: PAMM Free Second Saturdays: Word Power

Event Description

Discover the power of words, color and compassion by creating a cover story with your own unique message or superhero. Enjoy music, performances, superhero kid activities and a participatory CareForce One Disco that lifts up the voices of caregivers — the superheroes who look after our loved ones, our homes and make all other work possible.

Also, come and see Goya Foods’ interactive kids’ station where children can explore their creative side and taste our juices and cookies!

1-4pm: Ongoing stations

Superhero face painting for kids, CareForce coloring, projected animations and info table where families can take away resources about the movement for affordable, quality care that benefits families and workers.

1-2pm: CareForce Disco Workshop

A participatory dance workshop to prepare for the CareForce Disco, a dance that narrates the growing, national movement for affordable, quality care and domestic workers’ rights.

2:30-3:30pm: CareForce One Mini-Parade & CareForce Disco

A participatory mini-parade that starts from PAMM’s entrance culminating at the beach. Also hear powerful and personal stories of a few inspiring caregivers and care-receivers who lead a movement that shifts how our country values care.

About

Initiated by artist Marisa Morán Jahn in collaboration with the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Caring Across Generations, the CareForce is a public art project, Sundance-supported web series and mobile studio (the CareForce One) that amplifies the voices of America's fastest growing workforce — caregivers.

This event will be filmed as the culminating episode for a mini-series called the CareForce One Travelogues produced by Creative Capital, Sundance, and Tribeca Film Institute artist Marisa Morán Jahn and Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmaker Yael Melamede (SALTY Features) and ITVS/PBS to be launched in Spring 2017.
