Cinedans Dance on Screen Festival director Martine Dekker (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Jumping Frames International Dance Video Festival representative Andrea Baker (Hong Kong, China) will present a workshop and discussion. They will share their insights on their international festivals, including development, mission, and goals for the future. Dekker and Baker will also discuss the similarities and differences between European and Asian aesthetics in dance film creation and development. Perspectives will also touch on how small organizations and individual artists can broaden the genre and inspire other makers.
Martine Dekker worked as a business manager since 1994 for several art institutes and dance companies in The Netherlands, including the Hans Hof Ensemble, Beppie Blankert Dansconcerten and Stamina, and a choreographic computer studio by Bianca van Dillen. Since 2011 she has worked at Cinedans Dance on Screen Festival as their Business Manager, and since 2013 as the Director.
Andrea Lyn Baker has performed in the USA and abroad, alongside renowned dancers such as Sylvie Guillem, Rudolf Nureyev, Carla Fracci, and etoile of the Paris Opera. She has taught extensively, and founded the dance intensives at Balletto di Roma (Rome) and Korper (Naples). As an agent, she has represented prestigious companies such as Cloud Gate Dance Theatre (Taiwan), Scapino Ballet (Rotterdam), Raca (Brazil), Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contemporaneo (Portugal), City Contemporary Dance Company of Hong Kong (CCDC) and LDTX of Beijing in festivals in Italy and Europe. She currently represents Chinese independent artists and CCDC in performance promotion, as well as the Jumping Frames International Dance Video Festival. She is the co-producer of Maurice Lai’s Rite of City-Present, a China/Italy co-production that premiered in 2016 in Hong Kong.
