Pérez Art Museum Miami Brings Art to Miami-Dade County Neighborhoods with Inside|Out
Inside|Out is a program generously funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation that brings high-quality reproductions of works from PAMM’s permanent collection to communities throughout Miami-Dade County. Miami is the fourth city to host Inside|Out, a program conceived by the Detroit Institute of Arts in 2010. It proved so successful in Detroit, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is providing $2 million over three years to expand Inside|Out to communities across the country, including Charlotte, North Carolina, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Akron, Ohio.
The program kicked off in Miami in 2016 in the communities of Hialeah, Homestead and West End with a total of 30 reproductions—the program has grown double in size since then.
In April 2018, PAMM kicked off its third year of Inside|Out. Six communities were chosen for this year’s round of installations that kicked off in spring 2018 in Ironside and the Village of Pinecrest. Over the summer, the reproductions will rotate to Miller Drive Park, Miami Baywalk, City of Doral, and Little Haiti.
Ironside | Situated in Miami's Upper Eastside, a hidden gem in the Palm Grove Historic District, Ironside is a vibrant, mixed-use urban center with over 60 showrooms and shops, galleries and gardens, fitness studios, and pop-up spaces as well as a cafe and restaurant. 15 replicas are visible throughout the Ironside walking district.
Village of Pinecrest | 20 replicas are featured throughout the Pinecrest Gardens, a Village of Pinecrest publicly owned and operated outdoor recreation area acquired in part with funds from the Florida Communities Trust Preservation 2000 Program, the Pinecrest Community Center, and Public Library and the Village of Pinecrest City Hall.
Miller Drive Park | Home to Raices Hispanic Heritage Arts and Culture Center, a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary arts center founded in May of 1996. It provides art education services and cultural activities to the community, in addition to cultivating, promoting, celebrating and preserving the traditions found in Latin-American and Caribbean countries and embracing South Florida’s cultural diversity. A total of 15 replicas will be on view this summer throughout the park.
Miami Baywalk | The Miami Baywalk connects the Downtown Miami waterfront properties and provides a pleasant walking path for visitors and residents. 10 works from the Inside|Out program will be visible throughout portions of the Miami Baywalk this summer.
City of Doral | Doral is a thriving city in Miami-Dade county, home to a growing number of industries and diverse communities. We are excited to install 20 works from the Inside|Out collection throughout prominent locations in the City of Doral this summer.
Little Haiti | The cultural heart for the Haitian Diaspora in Miami, Inside|Out will showcase 20 works throughout the neighborhood.
Hialeah | Hialeah Park, Milander Park
Homestead | Blakey Park, Losner Park, Mayor Roscoe Warren Park, Robert Is Here
West End | Hammocks Community Park, Kendale Lakes Library, Olympic Park, Westwind Lakes Park
We encourage residents and community members to share their Inside|Out experiences on social media with #PAMMInsideOut and follow PAMM for updates on Facebook (/perezartmuseummiami), Twitter (@pamm) and Instagram (@pamm).
