On April 8th, a team of twelve teens hosted RECESS, a takeover of the Pérez Art Museum Miami for the 3,000 visitors that came through the museum.
PTAC, planned for months to deliver a full day of art in its many forms: visual, audio, and kinetic. Throughout the whole day, the main purpose of the event, Recess, was to give people an experience of early 2000’s kid culture. In a teenager’s daydream, this event brought memories back to a more childlike world filled with hopscotch, dodgeball, and music.
Inspired by Lawrence Weiner: OUT OF SIGHT, participants were able to collaborate visually, explore a poetry bus led by O,Miami, chat with different youth community organizations, and enjoy special performances led by local high school artists. Alongside PTAC, the students of the Overtown Afterschool at PAMM and Brick x Brick programs exhibited artwork based on current and past exhibitions that wowed and engaged visitors. All in all, our Second Saturday Teen Takeover brought us back to the shortest yet sweetest time of our childhood: recess.
