After an inspiring program with photography legend Lee Jaffe—featuring the launch of his book “Hit Me with Music” about his time documenting life with Bob Marley and the Wailers—the museum comes alive with a night of reggae, dancehall, and Afro-diasporic beats. Feel the energy as DJ Walshy Fire spins tracks that capture the roots of reggae and beyond.

About Walshy Fire
Walshy Fire is a Jamaican American DJ, MC, and record producer best known as a member of the global music group Major Lazer, alongside Diplo and Ape Drums. Born in Miami, Florida, to Jamaican parents, Walshy Fire was immersed in Caribbean music from an early age. He attended Clark Atlanta University and later earned a master’s degree from Florida A&M University.
Before joining Major Lazer in 2012, Walshy Fire was a key figure in Miami’s dancehall and reggae scene, gaining recognition as part of the Black Chiney sound system—famous for blending dancehall, hip-hop, and reggae. His energetic performances and deep knowledge of Caribbean music culture brought a unique authenticity to Major Lazer, helping the group become a global force in electronic dance music. With Major Lazer, Walshy Fire has contributed to international hits like “Lean On” and “Light It Up,” while also championing the sounds of the African diaspora. He is a passionate advocate for Afro-Caribbean music, regularly collaborating with artists from Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Beyond DJing, Walshy Fire is a cultural curator, producer, and educator, known for bridging genres and cultures through sound. His most recent project, Art of Dancehall, published by Rizzoli, is a definitive celebration of the distinctive art of poster and flyer design in the highly influential culture of Jamaican dancehall music.
