In this professional learning workshop inspired by Mark Dion: South Florida Mobile Rescue Unit, explore how contemporary art can help us understand our relationship to the natural world. Together, we will apply an interdisciplinary lens to Dion’s work to help us untangle and reveal our connection to, understanding of, and responsibility to steward South Florida’s ecosystems, including the Everglades.

This workshop aims to lay a foundation for educators to implement interdisciplinary curriculum in their art classrooms and beyond through exhibition-specific exercises.  Guided by PAMM teaching artists, participate in an inquiry-driven exploration of the large-scale installation. Build your understanding of South Florida’s ecology and the complex history of conservation through hands-on, interactive learning. Then, engage in an artmaking workshop to extend our investigation of Dion’s conceptual framework. Leave with resources, knowledge, and examples to help you build your own STEAM lessons for your classroom.

All K-12 educators, including teachers and paraprofessionals, museum professionals, and other informal educators, are welcome to attend. Light breakfast, lunch, and free parking will be provided for all participants. For updates to any workshop details, please check pamm.org/events. Organization and Support
Knight School Programs have been made possible by endowed funds granted by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Heckscher Foundation for Children, and The Edward C. Fogg, III and Lisbeth A. Fogg Trust and Anthony R. Abraham Foundation to underwrite the museum’s broad portfolio of education programs. Together with leadership support from Miami-Dade County, these funders enable the museum to transform the lives of young people in our community through our art education programs.
