(MIAMI, FL — February 13, 2020) — Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is pleased to present the sixth annual Art of the Party Presented by Valentino, the museum’s largest fundraiser of the year, on Saturday, March 7, 2020. The event will honor John S. & James L. Knight Foundation Chairman and CEO Alberto Ibargüen and museum Trustee Susana Ibargüen for their long-time support of the museum. The awardee of the second annual Pérez Prize, which honors an artist for artistic achievement, will also be announced at Art of the Party. The evening will be co-chaired by PAMM supporters Darlene and Jorge Pérez and Dorothy and Aaron Podhurst.

The evening will feature two special Art of the Party experiences created by Lee Brian Schrager and culinary collaborations by Chef Gregory Pugin, Christopher Bellanca, and Constellation Culinary Group on the museum’s picturesque waterfront terrace. Supporting sponsor De Beers Jewellers joins four-time Presenting sponsor Valentino at Art of the Party, which will showcase the world-class museum’s unique architecture, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, and celebrate Miami’s flagship art museum, bringing together cultural philanthropists, artists, civic leaders, and arts supporters from around Miami and beyond. Funds from Art of the Party directly support the museum’s robust arts education program, the largest of its kind outside the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system with over 215,000 children served since opening in December 2013, while also funding PAMM’s broader mission as Miami’s flagship art institution.

“This annual gala is a moment to celebrate Miami’s philanthropists who have made art and culture cornerstones of our community, while awarding an artist whose present work fits the museum’s vision — that all art can be a sign and symbol of a humanist future that embraces the potential for art to help us better understand each other,” said PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans.

Art of the Party Honorees Susana and Alberto Ibargüen have been vital figures in growing and supporting the cultural landscape in Miami for more than two decades. Together, the Ibargüens are among those visionary leaders whose generosity and unwavering commitment have helped both PAMM and Miami grow into world-class cultural destinations.

"Susana lbargüen has always been the unofficial leader of the Board of Trustees of Pérez Art Museum Miami. When Susana speaks, everybody listens. The museum would not be where it is if it weren't for the 20 plus years of devotion of Susana. We are truly indebted to her,” said Co-Chair Aaron Podhurst. “As to Alberto lbargüen, anyone who has lived in this community knows that both Alberto and the Knight Foundation have profoundly changed it for the better, making South Florida a leader in culture, diversity, and innovation. While the Knight Foundation has always been a remarkable resource for South Florida, the tenure of Alberto as Chief Executive Officer has been without parallel. All of us who live in Miami-Dade and South Florida are indebted to him.”

Susana has been a PAMM Trustee for over twenty years, and is a former President of the Board. She continues to participate in numerous PAMM committees and is a past chair of the museum’s Nominating Committee. Her passionate advocacy for the arts has led her to support multiple organizations in the Miami community and beyond.

The former publisher of the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald, Alberto has been President and CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation since 2005. Under his leadership, the foundation has become the leading philanthropic funder of the arts in Miami and around the nation, using arts and culture to bind people to their communities and to each other. Thanks to multi-million dollar grants from the Knight Foundation, PAMM is able to bring more than 40,000 schoolchildren to the museum each year to engage with the visual arts, free of charge. In addition, Ibargüen recently stepped down from the Board of Directors at American Airlines, and in appreciation of his dedicated service, American donated $100,000 in Ibargüen’s name to the institution of his choice, Pérez Art Museum Miami.

Susana and Alberto have given tirelessly of their time, talent and resources to ensure PAMM’s prominence and longevity, and to make the museum accessible to children of all ages from across the Miami community. It is PAMM’s privilege to honor them at the sixth annual Art of the Party.

The house of Valentino is nested in the heart of Rome, the Eternal City, and expresses a point of view on the contemporary world using history as a playground and the Atelier as a place that produces both beauty and thought. The story began in 1959. 2016 marks a new beginning, under the Creative Direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli. A new set of values, that are both of the moment and faithful to its heritage, are created: grace and delicacy, both as an attitude and as a silhouette; a celebration of individuality; emotional beauty; the blending and merging of different languages. Style is essential and impalpable. The idea of contemporary humanism leads a creative quest that revolves around the personality of the wearer. Vision, products, retail spaces share the same traits: from the one-of-a-kind Haute Couture creations to women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories, from eyewear to fragrances to the boutiques, Valentino is synonymous of elegance, pureness, craftsmanship, uniqueness.
