Visitors of all ages enjoyed an afternoon of art-making and interactive activities with Miami’s TM Sisters, who are known for multimedia performance art and video. Inspired by Ai Weiwei’s installation He Xie (2011), visitors created their own crustaceans using a swirling kaleidoscope of materials and animated the mini sculptures in the PAMM theater with a green screen background.
Hundreds of visitors took to the dance floor, moving to the sounds of traditional Cuban Son ensemble Cortadito during PAMM’s free first Thursdays. Guests danced under the stars, enjoyed a rum bar on the terrace and saw paintings by Cuban modernist Amelia Peláez along with other works on views in the galleries.
During YoungArts Miami, February 12-17 (with public events February 14-16), approximately 100 YoungArts Winners in the visual, literary, performing and design arts will take part in a week-long intensive, working with masters in their field, which in the past have included Plácido Domingo, Rosie Perez, James Rosenquist, Debbie Allen and Shelly Berg, to name a few. These talented young artists will then present their work through an exhibition, jazz combo performance and writers’ readings at the YoungArts Campus, and multi-disciplinary performances at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts.
David Beckham held a press conference at Pérez Art Museum Miami to confirm his purchase of a new Major League Soccer franchise in Miami. Beckham spoke to reporters alongside MLS commissioner Don Garber and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. After the press conference, Beckham held a Google Fan Hangout in PAMM’s Hoffman Boardroom to answer questions about his big announcement.
