On Saturday, March 17, 2018, Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) welcomed more than 900 cultural philanthropists, artists, civic leaders, and arts supporters to its fourth annual PAMM Art of the Party presented by Valentino, the museum’s largest fundraiser event of the year. The event, which honored one of today’s leading contemporary artists Teresita Fernández and philanthropist Patricia M. Papper, raised more than $1.3 million. All funds will directly support the museum’s robust arts education program, the largest program of its kind outside the Miami-Dade County school system.
On March 10, 2018, visitors joined us for PAMM Free Second Saturdays: Symbolic Identity. In honor of Women’s History Month, the day’s art-making was centered around the work of women artists. Guests stopped by to donate books to the Taylor Moxey library, and enjoyed a special performance by the Girl Power Choir in the auditorium. Afterwards, CareForce One Travelogues premiered their Sundance-supported docuseries for visitors in the museum.
Can you name #5WomenArtists? Teresita Fernández—an internationally acclaimed artist who is being honored at this weekend’s PAMM Art of the Party—is known for prominent public installations and large-scale experiential sculptures designed to evoke striking landscapes. Her work and influence has been vital to the evolution of PAMM for over a decade. Commissioned by the museum in 2002, Fernández designed an oval room that housed an immersive, minimalist installation exploring the elements of light, shadow, water, clouds, and foliage. PAMM’s collection includes multiple works by Fernández. Eclipse (2002) was featured in Routes of Influence, an exhibition of the museum’s permanent collection, and her massive glazed ceramic mosaic pictured above, Fire (America) 5 (2017), has served as the focal point of all three chapters of On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection. Tickets for Saturday’s PAMM Art of the Party can be purchased at pamm.org/artoftheparty2018.
