Artist Dara Friedman and PAMM Curator René Morales will discuss Friedman's artistic practice on the occasion of the opening of Dara Friedman: Perfect Stranger. Friedman and Morales will detail how the artist's film and video installations infuse the techniques and principles of Structural filmmaking with a strong emotional charge. Dara Friedman: Perfect Stranger will be on view November 3, 2017 through March 4, 2018.
Dara Friedman studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, as well as at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, in London; University of Miami, School of Communication; and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Solo exhibitions of her work have been presented at institutional venues including Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2014); Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (2014); Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw (2013); Museum Kunst der Westküste, Alkersum, Germany (2012); Miami Art Museum (2012); Contemporary Art Museum, Raleigh, North Carolina (2012); Museum of Modern Art, New York (2010); Public Art Fund, New York (2007); The Kitchen, New York (2005); Kunstmuseum Thun, Switzerland (2002); and SITE Santa Fe (2001). Her work has been included in group exhibitions at institutions including Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (2013); Kunstlerhaus Stuttgart (2011); MoMA PS 1, Long Island City, New York (2010); Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2009 and 2002); Serralves Museum, Porto, Portugal (2009); Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (2009); Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2002); and New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2002), among several others.
