Calendar: PAMM Third Thursdays: Poplife Social featuring Hieroglyphic Being presented by The Rhythm Foundation

Event Description

Rhythm Foundation is taking over for an electronic edition of PAMM's Poplife Social, featuring Chicago-based artist Hieroglyphic Being. Making music at the intersection of Deep House, Afrofuturism, avant-jazz, EBM, and international soundscapes, this DJ set will bring all of these influences together for a night of electric artistry.

Kick the weekend off early and make dinner reservations at Verde, join in on themed art-making, and explore the galleries.

Hieroglyphic Being Bio

"Born and based in Chicago, Moss's music embodies two of the cultural foundation blocks of the city's musical lineage; that of Chicago's original Acid House sound—Frankie Knuckles, Phuture, Marshall Jefferson et al, alongside a rigorous experimental sound searching that taps into the cosmic musical lineage of pioneering artist Sun Ra whose Arkestra landed and was based in the city from 1946-61, and the equally pioneering work of The Art Ensemble of Chicago." – Soul Jazz Records

Hieroglyphic Being (aka Jamal Moss) is a singular electronic artist making music at the intersection of Deep House, Afrofuturism, avant-jazz, EBM, and international soundscapes. He calls his music "rhythmic cubism/synth expressionism" as well as "world dance music". Having released albums on Ninja Tune, Soul Jazz Records, and RVNG Intl, as well as his own Mathematics record label, the Chicago native is an incredibly prolific figure whose releases have straddled House labels and the more left field avant-garde electronic imprints with ease. He has collaborated with artists such as Sun Ra Arkestra leader Marshall Allen, Greg Fox, Shelley Hirsch, Guardian Alien, and synth artist Ben Vida, among others.
