Sigalit Landau created these chandelier-like objects by bending razor wire into decorative shapes and then immersing the forms in the Dead Sea, where they eventually became encrusted with mineral salt. Once the objects were removed from the water, the brittle salt became prone to breaking off in pieces, revealing the sharp, rusted metal underneath -a process accepted by the artist as part of the life of the work. Bordered by Jordan to the east and Palestine and Israel to the west, the Dead Sea is noted for its high salinity and its location at the center of conflict in the Middle East.¶
