PAMM Art Storytime: Shadow Lanterns & City Lights

October 24, 2026
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
At PAMM

Join us for another playful edition of PAMM Art Storytime inspired by artist Deborah Brown’s Moonlight (2021) and the imaginative possibilities of light and shadow.

Deborah Brown. Moonlight from the Brooklyn Series, 2021.

Building on the foundations of early literacy, pre-K students and their caregivers will begin with a short museum tour, using close looking, observation, and imagination to explore how the artist uses light, color, and shadow to capture a quiet walk through New York City.

Visitors will then experience storytelling in a new way through a shadow theater presentation of “Abiyoyo,” a picture-book adaptation of a South African lullaby and folk story retold by Pete Seeger and illustrated by Michael Hays. Finally, guests will become storytellers themselves by creating their own shadow lanterns. Using a translucent bag as their canvas, children will draw silhouettes of characters, objects, and places from a story they would like to share—whether inspired by their imagination, family, or community.
