About Gia Fu
Gia Fu is a Hong Kong-born DJ, music producer, and cultural researcher, known for her deep-rooted work in Afro-Latin music, particularly Salsa and its associated rhythms.
Her artistic practice combines musical expertise with cultural research, reflecting how her Chinese heritage and Latin American-Caribbean influences inform and enrich one another. Passionate about challenging stereotypes and fostering inclusion, Fu builds bridges through sound and storytelling. She leads Canton Mambo 曼波 (@cantonmambo), a multidisciplinary project connecting communities through music, dance, and cultural exchange. The initiative champions cultural dialogue and unity, with her single “Canton Mambo” blending salsa rhythms with the GuZheng, introducing a bold and evocative fusion sound.
In 2021, Fu produced a big-band salsa album for Grammy-nominated artist Angel Meléndez, working with 30 musicians across generations in Puerto Rico. Since then, she has continued to leave her mark internationally, playing for Bulova at the Latin Grammys, Clockenflap Festival in Hong Kong, EDC Mexico, Glastonbury UK, the InterMiami Pre-Party for Lionel Messi and David Beckham, and curating music for Louis Vuitton Men’s Pre-Fall Show After Party, hosted by Pharrell Williams (2023). She also opened for Marc Anthony’s VIVIENDO Tour in Miami and performed at Rauw Alejandro’s Cosa Nuestra album release events in both Tokyo and Miami.
In addition to club and festival appearances, Fu holds community-based listening sessions, including recent ones in Hong Kong and Montreal’s Chinatown, where she highlights the diasporic connections between East Asia and the Latin American-Caribbean world through records and conversation.
Since early 2024, Fu has been on a run of sold-out DJ and performance shows across the U.S. and Mexico as a headline artist, further cementing her reputation as a powerful cultural curator and rising global force in music.
