ABOUT JOSÉ PARLÁ
José Parlá (b. 1973, Miami; lives in New York) seeks to translate the language of the city streets into a form of abstraction through painting and sculpture. Each abstract mark, line, and brush stroke comprises what Parlá calls “memory documents,” all inspired by the fleeing moments, posters, and fliers that interact with city walls through the years. In this sense, location plays a very important role in Parlá’s artistic practice. With each work, he provides markers of time filled with nostalgia and his own personal thoughts and interpretations.
