(MIAMI — November 14, 2022) — Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is pleased to announce an exciting lineup of events, exhibitions, and programs for Miami Art Week 2022. Featuring panel discussions, artist-led tours, and lively parties, PAMM’s dynamic Art Week programs highlight the museum’s dedication to Miami’s diverse arts community and encourage art-viewing as a means of genuine human connection.

“We are once again looking forward to Miami Art Week, where we have the opportunity to welcome an international audience and serve as a pillar that reflects this city’s diverse cultural fabric. We’re thrilled to experience and participate in the many magical moments this week brings to Miami through our robust Art Week programs. I’m especially excited to welcome guests for our newest exhibition, Liminal, artist Leandro Erlich’s first North American retrospective that is sure to captivate visitors through a series of large-scale installations and optical illusions. On Thursday, we’ll be hosting PAMM Presents, our signature art week bash with a special performance by award-winning artist, bassist, songwriter, and singer Meshell Ndegeocello, and on Saturday I’m looking forward to our panel discussion with Art at a Time Like This, a digital-first arts organization presenting art in public places, for an important conversation about inequities in our justice system,” said PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans.

The museum will be open with special hours throughout the week for visitors to attend special programs and view the museum’s current exhibitions, which include: Leandro Erlich: Liminal, organized by independent curator Dan Cameron, the largest presentation of Leandro Erlich’s artworks ever in the United States featuring a selection of 16 interactive works and site-specific installations that span more than two decades of the Argentine artist’s career; Mariano: Variations on a Theme, the first major retrospective exhibition by the Cuban modern artist; Simone Leigh: Trophallaxis, a singular sculpture which encapsulates the artist’s emphasis on the female body—particularly the Black female body; Christo Drawings: A Gift from the Maria Bechily and Scott Hodes Collection, a presentation of stellar works on paper and collages by Christo and Jeanne-Claude detailing their major projects spanning form the late 1960s to the early 2000s; a walk-in installation by Hélio Oiticica; Marco Brambilla: Heaven’s Gate, a monumental work of digital psychedelia; and Carlos Cruz-Diez: Chromosaturation, an immersive environment that reimagines color as an embodied experience.

Also debuting during Art Week is PAMM’s new AR Gallery, New Realities, that will feature rotating commissions in augmented reality during Miami Art Week. All works are commissioned by PAMM specifically for this purpose and are part of the Knight Foundation’s ongoing support of digital initiatives at the museum. Using the PAMM logo as the stage, New Realities asks users to participate rather than view. Whether through games, apps, QR codes, or websites, this form of interaction is at the core of digital practice—users rather than viewers, works that emerge from unexpected places. This exhibition exists wherever the PAMM logo exists. To use the current work, open ar.pamm.org on your phone and point it at any PAMM logo.

Programming highlights include: a special preview for Leandro Erlich: Liminal on Tuesday, November 29 from 9am-2pm, followed by an installment of the Scholl Lecture Series, presented by Goldman Sachs with artist Leandro Erlich in conversation with curator Dan Cameron; PAMM Presents, the museum’s signature Art Week celebration, which will take place on Thursday, December 1 from 8–11pm, featuring headliner Meshell Ndegeocello produced by Jill Newman Productions; and a panel discussion with nonprofit arts organization Art at a Time Like This, which will feature a discussion with thought leaders and artists about mass incarceration and inequalities in the justice system on Saturday, December 3 at 2pm.
