(MIAMI, FL — December 12, 2024) — Last week, Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) celebrated Miami Art Week 2024 with an exciting lineup of events and exhibitions with highlights including the museum’s signature Art Week party, as well as their annual donor dinner, and a panel discussion with Kate Capshaw. In addition to programming and festivities, PAMM announced institutional acquisitions from The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) and SCOPE Art Show.

On Wednesday, December 4, PAMM Board of Trustees President Luke Palacio and Director Franklin Sirmans invited supporters to the museum’s annual Miami Art Week Donor Recognition Dinner. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal on the museum’s private third-floor terraces overlooking the Miami skyline. The evening was made possible in part by Visionary Sponsor Ben Brown Fine Arts. Notable guests included: José Parlá, JR, Ben Brown, Darlene and Jorge M. Pérez, and Ambassador Steven Green.
Also on Wednesday, December 4, PAMM’s Collectors Council enjoyed an exclusive breakfast at the home of the New World Symphony before joining Director Franklin Sirmans and the PAMM curatorial team for a guided visit to the First Choice VIP Preview of Art Basel Miami Beach. The PAMM Collectors Council, sponsored by J.P. Morgan Private Bank, is an upper-level membership group dedicated to acquiring works of art for the PAMM permanent collection.

On Thursday, December 5, the museum hosted PAMM Presents, its annual Art Week bash, featuring the global collective HOMECOMING™ curated by Grace Ladoja with an international lineup of Amaarae, DJ Tunez, and Dare Balogun, complemented with DJ sets by Miami’s very own music makers SATURNSARii, Kumi and Lumin. The annual party celebrates PAMM as a collecting institution with an ongoing mission to promote artistic expression and the exchange of ideas to advance public knowledge and appreciation of art, architecture, and design, while representing and cherishing the unique diversity of Miami-Dade. Notable guests included: Camille Bacon, Daria Harper, Everett Taylor, Helen Toomer, Sergei (Sirj) Grant, and Storm Ascher.
To celebrate the opening of Kate Capshaw’s Exclusive Tonsorial Services, PAMM hosted an engaging conversation with Kapshaw, Sergei (Sirj) Grant (the portrait’s subject), and PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans on Tuesday, December 3. Notable guests included: Amy Sherald, Calida Rawles, and John Travolta.
Additional Miami Art Week 2024 programming highlights included a dynamic conversation on the role of art criticism in the digital age, with New York Magazine’s Jerry Saltz and Instagram icon Jerry Gogosian (Hilde Lynn Helphenstein); a meditative soundbath by Project For Empty Space and Commissioner, as part of BODY FREEDOM FOR EVERY(BODY); and a special tour of the museum led by Black Girls in Art Spaces (BGIAS).
PAMM also acquired works for its collection from The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) and SCOPE Art Show art fairs. For the seventh annual NADA Acquisition Gift for PAMM, which provides funding for PAMM curators to acquire an artwork for the museum’s permanent collection from NADA Miami, PAMM Associate Curators Jennifer Inacio and Maritza Lacayo selected Simon Benjamin’s Crown and Anchor I (2024) from Swivel Gallery. For the 2024 second annual SCOPE Art Show Acquisition Prize for PAMM, PAMM Chief Curator Gilbert Vicario selected Jahlil Nzinga’s Watch The Lights Go Out (2023) from Good Mother.

Pérez Art Museum Miami kicked off Miami Art Week with a panel exploring performance as art criticism featuring art world Instagram icon Jerry Gogosian (Hilde Lynn Helphenstein) and New York Magazine Senior Art Critic Jerry Saltz, moderated by Miami-based writer, editor, and curator Natalia Zuluaga.
This engaging conversation delved into the evolving role of art criticism in the digital age, examining how online culture and tools are reshaping art criticism practice today. The panel explored how internet discourse aligns—or clashes—with what’s capturing attention at art fairs this week.

Art & Insight: A Talk with Kate Capshaw, Sergei Grant, and Franklin Sirmans
For her new installation at PAMM, Capshaw engaged in a months-long conversation with Sergei (Sirj) Grant, who was born in North Miami Beach and graduated from Carol City Senior High School in Miami Gardens, on the northern edge of Miami-Dade County. Grant, an entrepreneurial barber plying his trade all around Miami, also teaches and mentors young barbers. His story is one of challenge met with triumph and is highlighted in this special exhibition.

Black Girls in Art Spaces Tour
Black Girls in Art Spaces (BGIAS) hosted a tour of select works currently on view at the museum. Black Girls in Art Spaces is a dynamic, global platform dedicated to supporting and amplifying the voices of Black girls, women, and non-binary individuals in the arts. Focused on fostering inclusivity, connectivity, and education, BGIAS offers a range of events designed to create spaces where the community can thrive.

PAMM Presents Featuring Global Platform HOMECOMING™ by Grace Ladoja
Pérez Art Museum Miami celebrated Miami Art Week with its signature Thursday night event, featuring the global platform HOMECOMING curated by Grace Ladoja with an international lineup of Amaarae, DJ Tunez, and Dare Balogun, complimented with DJ sets by Miami’s very own music makers SATURNSARii, Kumi, and Lumin. Guests enjoyed drinks and dancing on the museum’s waterfront terrace. Inside the museum, visitors were able to explore PAMM’s galleries including its newest exhibition, José Parlá: Homecoming presented by Citi. PAMM Presents 2024 was sponsored by Art Miami + Art Miami Context, BLESS Collection Hotels, and La Croix Sparkling Water.

BODY FREEDOM FOR EVERY(BODY)
Brought to PAMM by Project For Empty Space and Commissioner, BODY FREEDOM FOR EVERY(BODY) is a project championing bodily autonomy, reproductive justice, queer liberation, and trans joy through a cross-country touring exhibition inside a 27-foot box truck. The truck opened to the public with a tour by Commissioner, followed by an artist-led tour of Antonia Wright’s State of Labor and a healing, meditative soundbath to recover from the week’s busyness.
