Surrounded Islands (Project for Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida) by Christo is a drawing from 1983. It is made of pastel, graphite, enamel, fabric, and photograph on paper. It measures roughly five feet tall by eight and a half feet wide. It is hung in landscape orientation, meaning its longest side runs parallel to the ground. The drawing depicts two different views of islands in Biscayne Bay surrounded by a bright pink fabric. The top portion of the drawing begins with a large sample of pink fabric cut into a square. To the right there is a large photographic map of Biscayne Bay. It is black and white with small sections of pink around several small islands on the water. Underneath the map there is text written by the artist that details the location, name of the piece, and date. Underneath the text there is a large drawing of two islands. The water is blue and the foliage that covers the islands is dense and various shades of green. The first island occupies a majority of the composition while the second island sits behind it and is much smaller. In the horizon there is the sky and the skyline of the city. Surrounding both the islands is a large mass of pink that takes a mostly circular shape with irregularities. The pink reaches towards the edges of the islands and leads only the trees and foliage visible. Throughout the piece there is writing detailing dimensions, materials, and the process of installation.
