Step inside This is America: Selections from PAMM’s Collection and discover the vibrant mixed media world of Evita Tezeno. Her painting, The Rhythm of Street Life, bursts with the energy of Black community life in 1960s Port Arthur, Texas, brought to life through hand-painted papers, acrylic paint, and vintage buttons passed down from her grandmother. Tezeno’s layered compositions honor both personal memory and shared history, and you’ll have the chance to create your own mixed media artwork inspired by your heritage and community.

The celebration continues with a special performance of “Othello of Overtown”—a powerful three-act play chronicling the rise and journey of Purvis Young, a visionary African American artist whose work captured the soul of Miami-Dade County from the late 20th century into the early 2000s. Using Shakespeare’s “Othello” as its lens, the production explores the singular passion that both fueled and complicated Young’s life as he navigated art, community, and the business world.
