Join Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and Third Horizon Film Festival for a workshop, trilogy of short films, and conversation with filmmaker Samuel Suffren. Centered around Haitian resilience, strength, and joy, the films and workshop will inspire and familiarize you with the legacy of Haitian art and filmmaking.
Workshop

Before the screening, Samuel Suffren will engage in a workshop, aimed at filmmakers and artists as well as the general public, that delves into his singular filmmaking practice. Drawing upon a range of visual and sonic materials, including clips from his films and work by others filmmakers that has inspired him, he will explore his creative method, which is rooted in a rich history of Haitian visual art, the blending of fiction and documentary modes, and a unique approach to rendering cinematic time.
Trilogy Film Screening
6–7:30pm
This trilogy is inspired by the story of Samuel Suffren’s father, who embarked on a boat journey with 22 other Haitians in 1981 in search of the American Dream. The three films tell stories from the perspective of those who stay in the country. In his cinema, Samuel visually reconnects with his past and ancestors, framing Haiti with a latent gaiety, like a joy that will come tomorrow. His work portrays the beauty, the resilience, and the strength of his country.
Agwe
